Weekend Edition // Saturday Musings

When you’re thinking of things to do with a pregnant friend, I can’t advise anything more enjoyable than a lazy day spent strolling in the historic and beautiful city of Chester. I haven’t seen Jenna in what feels like ages, in reality it’s little over a month.  You might remember Jenna from my previous post ‘My best friend is expecting’. Well, she is now an astounding 25 weeks pregnant. My, the time just flies!
After a morning at pregnancy yoga (Jenna, not I, obviously Donna)  we headed down the M56, Chester bound and ready for a seriously satisfying luncheon date. Enter The Bar Lounge, a hidden gem in the centre of Chester that I’d once visited years before. Stepping into the bar, it was incredibly busy. Resting her hand on her pregnant belly, they literally squeezed us onto a table, right in the centre of the action.

The drinks menu arrived as a wooden book carefully separated into themes such as ‘the garden’, I decided to partake in Grey Goose pear vodka teamed with ginger ale. Simply delicious. Pear and ginger? Who knew? It’s definitely got me wanting to make my own version.
Oh you’re looking at the food and wondering how that was? Well it was as delicious as it looks, that I can assure you. You’re looking at an All American Club Sandwich, oh and chips in a tin can… novel.
Our quest to find this long-forgotten eatery led us onto the path of vintage righteousness. Yes, right across from The Bar Lounge was a vintage fashion fair, free entry…we were there.

My Lenten promise has even sucked the joy out of vintage clothes shopping. There was a brief moment of excitement at the sight of a mustard coloured blouse, but it was short lived when I got closer and saw that it was XXL! My disappointment was soon overcome when I clapped eyes on a vintage silver ring. Ticketed at £15, the stall holder let me have it for  just a tenner. As you can see in the above picture, his stall was like an Aladdin’s cave of vintage jewellery. Lush!
Have you heard of Patisserie Valerie? Jenna had and wanted to pop by for a little post lunch treat (Who am I to deny a pregnant woman’s needs?) Spoilt for choice, I plumped for a Pecan Tart to take home , oh and a lemon sorbet ice cream cone to munch on the way home. Greedy I know, but meh.
And here’s me, making the most of having a willing photographer and posing in front of a pretty archway with my Patisserie Valerie loot!
So, how was your weekend? Did you get up to much?

As always, much love,

Donna (In love with Chester, all over again)
